An island of contrasts between land and sea
Caribbean sun, white sandy beaches, turquoise sea, and a European lifestyle. Guadeloupe's two islands offer a captivating array of natural and cultural attractions.
Guadeloupe, a narrow territory in the Caribbean Sea, is part of the Lesser Antilles and comprises several islands with contrasting scenery and wildlife, all united under the French banner. The largest, posed like a butterfly in the middle of the water, is called ‘Karukera' in amerindian. It is the most amazing, both in terms of its mountainous topography and exuberant nature, and the diversity of its beaches. There are two regions for the same island: Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre.
Grande Terre, the right wing of the butterfly, flat and arid, is the most popular tourist area with the most beautiful beaches. The shores of golden sand are lined with coconut trees and bathed by crystal-clear water. It is a paradise for divers and water sports enthusiasts. Most hotels are located on its coast, notably in Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François and on to the Pointe des Châteaux. Not far away, Pointe-à-Pitre forms the head of this beautiful butterfly.
Basse-Terre, mountainous and green, is the left wing. It is a veritable lush Garden of Eden where the active La Soufrière volcano rises proud. Here you are in the national park of Guadeloupe, the realm of hikers, covered with a tropical forest dotted with waterfalls, vertical drops, and trails lined with ancient trees. Its beaches of black sand are not to be missed.
A few nautical miles away are the southern islands with poetic names like Marie-Galante, Petite-Terre, La Désirade, and Les Saintes, evoking enchanting lagoons, protected wildlife, and unspoiled nature. The Petite-Terre Reserve is a very reachable refuge for iguanas. Marie-Galante, known for its beaches and rum, offers a journey back in time, far from mass tourism. Désirade, often compared to the island of Robinson Crusoe, inspires calm, with its heavenly beaches and unpeopled landscapes. Les Saintes offers an unparalleled spectacle, featuring one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
You will be amazed by so much beauty and diversity, with idleness the ideal approach for some, sports and exploration for others. Happiness is a temperature of 27°C and water at 25°C all year round. What are you waiting for?
