Le Festin des Cougourdons

The Gourd Festival is the first party of the year in Nice; held in the Arènes de Cimiez gardens, it celebrates the Annunciation and the return of spring.
Cougourdon is the local Nice name given to the gourds grown in the region. These non-edible vegetables come in unusual shapes and different sizes. Once dried and emptied of their flesh and seeds, artisans transform them into containers of all kinds used in a multitude of ways by local residents in their daily lives.
More than 3,000 people visit stands exhibiting decorated gourds and local produce (socca, pan-bagnat, etc.) while enjoying live entertainment.
